Module 3.2 Team Assignment

Q Remember the importance of team assignments: At the midpoint of the course and again at the end, you will receive feedback from your team members about your strengths and limitations as a member of your group. Do not wait to participate in team projects! Prioritizing team assignments and participating three or more days per week on those projects will help you with your individual assignments. As you have learned throughout your academic career and in this module's resources, there are many ethical concerns that may arise when conducting research in psychology, as well as treatments that may be prescribed or applied to individuals or groups. For this activity, you will work with your team members to identify and analyze an example of psychological research that involves at least one ethical issue and then create a VoiceThread presentation to convey your analysis. Here's what to do: Pre-step: Review our preceding presentation on Ethical (and Unethical) Psychological Research • You need to be aware of the examples discussed in our presentation, as those cannot be used for this assignment. Step 1: Collaboratively identify an example of unethical psychological research • This may include intentional deception of participants, violations of confidentiality, participant endangerment, a lack of voluntary consent, or discouraging participants from withdrawing from participation in research or treatment. • Recall that according to APA guidelines, if there is ever any doubt as to whether or not research is ethical or, if there is a conflict of interest between the participants and the research, the interests of the subjects should always take priority. • Because ethical principles have changed over time, it may be necessary to find an older study that includes what would be considered ethical violations by today’s standards. Step 2: Analyze your unethical research study Addressing the following questions: • What was the goal of this research study? • What are the ethical violations that you see? • What are your thoughts/reactions regarding these ethical violations? • Did the ethical violations result in any harm to the participants? • Did the study you examined include a protected group such as children, pregnant women, disabled, or ethnic minorities such as Native Americans? • If you and your group were to conduct the same research like the one you selected, what would you have done differently to stay compliant with the current APA Ethical Codes and Principles? Step 3: (Team Leader only) Create a VoiceThread presentation start and share link with team See Team Leader directions at the bottom of the page. Share the link to your VT start in the Team Assignment forum below. Step 4: Collaborate to complete an engaging VoiceThread presentation After accessing the link provided by your team leader in Step 3, upload additional media (e.g., slides, your concept map image or PDF, etc.) and record verbal commentary. Your VoiceThread must address all Step 2 content requirements as well as the following: • Audio commentary of no more than 3 minutes (in total, not per slide!) o Divide up the audio commentary work as you see fit. Video commentary is not required. • Supporting graphics/images • A reference slide at the end of your presentation that references your scholarly source in APA format For maximum points, your VoiceThread should also reflect the following presentation best practices: • Be concise and clear. Information presented visually (in text or graphics) does not necessarily need to be repeated in your voice-over. • Work from a script. Scripts help you sound more focused and polished. • Do not just read your slides!?Use keywords, bullet points, and images to convey, illustrate, or emphasize important information.?Use your voice-over to add the remaining information. • Employ storytelling best practices! o Think about how the creator of our earlier 4 Unethical Psychological Studies video (Links to an external site.) not only conveys information but also triggers your outrage. Step 5: Post your Finalized VoiceThread Presentation link Please add the words "Our Unethical Research VoiceThread presentation" to your post along with your link. One submission per team. • For ease of instructor location, your presentation link should be the final post in this forum. Evaluation This team assignment will be evaluated using the LAPSY 498 Group VoiceThread Assignment rubric. This assignment is due no later than Sunday by 11:59 pm ET. Team assignments represent 20% of your final grade. • Reminder: your individual contributions to your Team Assignments will be assessed separately by your instructor in M4 based on self and peer reviews you will complete in that module. Outcomes This activity assesses the following module outcomes: • M3-01: Demonstrate efficient teamwork and collaboration skills. (CO7) • M3-02: Evaluate psychological research from the standpoint of adherence to the APA Ethics Code in psychological research involving human or non-human research.
